Rodrequez Selected 2024 Missouri Superintendent of the Year

The Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA) has announced the selection of Dr. Kenny Rodrequez, Superintendent of Grandview Consolidated School District #4 (Grandview C-4), as the 2024 Missouri Superintendent of the YearDr. Rodequez was honored during the MSBA/MASA Annual Fall Conference held November 4, 2023, at the Kansas City Convention Center, Kansas City, Missouri.

MASA Executive Director, Dr. Doug Hayter, stated, "Kenny Rodrequez is not only an outstanding leader for the Grandview C-4 School District, but he is a dynamic and respected colleague in the Greater Kansas City area. Kenny can see the big picture of school leadership, but just as importantly, he knows how to access the details of how to get the most out of his staff and students.”

Dr. Rodrequez is in his seventh year as Superintendent of the Grandview C-4 School District. Previously, Dr. Rodrequez served in various educational roles. At the building level, Dr. Rodrequez served as an instrumental music teacher, a fine arts resource teacher, an assistant principal, and a lead principal. At the administrative level, Dr. Rodrequez has served as the Executive Assistant to the Associate Superintendent of Secondary Schools in the Tulsa Public Schools; the Director of Secondary Schools for the Kansas City Public Schools; and the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the Grandview C-4 School District.

In his application, Dr. Rodrequez noted the Grandview C-4 School District serves a diverse community of approximately 3,700 students.

Dr. Rodrequez is dedicated to student success. During his tenure as the Grandview C-4 School District leader, he has spearheaded efforts to identify and enhance academic achievement. Recognizing the significance of real-time student data, the District has implemented the iReady platform to provide essential data for instructional teams to establish clear goals and priorities, while also monitoring students' progress at three distinct points throughout the school year. Dr. Rodrequez has also taken the lead in various aspects of student achievement, including conducting root cause analysis, addressing cultural competence, implementing behavioral intervention support teams, and developing a high-quality and inclusive curriculum.

Communication is also central to Dr. Rodrequez’s leadership approach. In his application, he wrote, “In 2014, the District received input regarding communication areas needing attention. Grandview first began a process to determine how well we communicate. We engaged our diverse community in a comprehensive survey which showed us how the district excels at communicating ‘date-based’ news such as calendar updates, events, and activities. It also identified areas we needed to improve on including how we deliver news pertaining to more complex issues. This survey led to the District completing its first comprehensive communications plan which included revising how we communicate internally and externally as well as completely redesigning our communications tools.”

As Dr. Rodrequez noted in his application, “My ongoing goal is to develop a high level of trust throughout the organization as well as throughout the Grandview community. A main tenant of developing trust centers around being highly communicative with all levels of the organization and community. I believe that while I have built trust throughout my tenure in Grandview, I must continue to stay connected to all levels of the greater Grandview community to ensure open and honest conversations can continue to occur. This will continue to aid me in navigating all controversial topics that come along.”

The Missouri Association of School Administrators is pleased to honor Dr. Rodrequez as the 2024 Missouri Superintendent of the Year.

Dr. Rodrequez will be recognized during the American Association of School Administrators National Conference on Education in February 2024 for his state selection.
