2023 - 2024 First-Year Superintendent

Mentoring and Support Program

(Program includes options for individuals that are coming to Missouri from another state with superintendent experience)

Register Here!

The cost for each component in this program is in addition to your annual MASA membership registration and your membership dues which will be based on a percentage of your salary.

On behalf of the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA), congratulations on your first year as a Missouri superintendent  I encourage you to review the MASA First-Year Superintendent Support Program information below and get registered at your earliest convenience.

Although your official duties may not begin until July 1, we would like to assign a MASA mentor to you as soon as possible, so you can benefit from that relationship as you begin the transition.  If you have a mentor recommendation that you would like the MASA Mentoring Committee to consider, you can enter that name when you complete your registration.  If you don’t have a recommendation, a member of the Mentoring Committee will work with you to make the best assignment possible.

Overview:

The First-Year Superintendent Support program provides a MASA mentor, which meets a DESE requirement when applying for upgrading to a career certificate, while also providing a network to enhance your performance as a district leader.  In addition, first-year superintendents can secure a seat at professional development opportunities provided through MASA’s Lead-Develop-Support (LDS) Workshop Series.

The MASA First-Year Superintendent Support Program consists of:

Component 1:  MASA Mentoring (Cost = $300.00)

The MASA Mentoring Committee will pair first-year, K-12 superintendents with a mentor for the school year. This program includes 10 hours of face-to-face contact with your mentor.  The MASA Mentoring program fulfills one of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requirements for upgrading from an “initial” certificate to a “career” certificate.

New K-8 superintendents / principals that have never served as a principal may access a mentor through DESE’s Missouri Leadership Development Program (MLDS) instead of using the MASA Mentoring program.  However, I would encourage you to take advantage of our Workshop Discount program.  I would be happy to provide additional information if this option pertains to you.

Component 2:  MASA Workshop Discount Program (Cost = $400.00)

The MASA Lead-Develop-Support (LDS) Workshop Series offers a variety of workshops during the year.  If you decide to take advantage of the Workshop Discount component, you will save 33% on the cost of a variety of workshops covering a variety of topics including four finance workshops, four Board Relations Workshops, Legislative Advocacy Workshops, Legal Issue Workshops, Personnel Workshops, and Leadership Workshops.  As a first-year superintendent you will be able to attend up to ten workshops for a one-time fee.

**Discount Offer: If you choose to register for the Discount Workshop component at the time you sign up for the MASA Mentoring Program, you will receive:

Ten workshops for $400 (33% discount) instead of the regular price of $600 ($60 each).

When the workshops are advertised during the year, you select the event, location, and method of participation that is most convenient for you.  If you are unable to attend, you are allowed to send a representative from your district in your place.

Payment for any components of this program will not be invoiced until after July 1, 2023, unless otherwise requested.
